Bert DeCoteaux was a very talented arranger and producer who helped shape the sound of soul music during the 1960s and 70s through the many records he helped create.
See our earlier post on DeCoteaux for more on his prolific career.
The number of songs DeCoteaux wrote pales in comparison to how many he arranged and produced, but he was still an hugely talented songwriter. In 1968, he co-wrote Billy Jackson’s upbeat anthem “T. C. B. (Taking Care Of Business)” which he also arranged, produced by Terry Terrell for Brunswick Records.
The following year, he and producer Clyde Otis co-wrote the heartfelt B-side “You'll Know I'm Around” to singer Lynn Sobey’s only ever release, “What Happened To Our Love” (1969).
After spending several years in the early seventies producing the Main Ingredient, in 1973 DeCoteaux wrote and produced the stellar upbeat jam “Hold On To It” b/w “Don't Go Away Girl” for singer Barry Smith. The single was released on Shane Records, one of Henry Stone’s subsidiary labels under the umbrella of T.K. Productions.
Happy 95th Heavenly Birthday to the great Bert DeCoteaux.
